Eco-Facts

  • The Thai Lemongrass we use in our Oh So Lemon and Oh So Lemon Decaf green tea blends is dried in a solar dryer.
  • A single tea bush produces leaves each day for up to 50 years. An entire tea estate or plantation absorbs more CO2 (carbon dioxide) than it produces. Drink tea - save the planet!
  • Our luxury flavored black teas are from Ethical Partnership estates and are flavored with all natural flavoring oils - there are NO chemical additives.
  • While some of our teas are certified organic, virtually all tea grown at high elevations require no pesticides because at these altitudes, pests are not a problem.
  • Virtually all tea estates in Sri Lanka now pack their tea in recyclable paper sacks instead of the old-style tea chests, which reduces deforestation.
  • Here at Tea & Treasures, we recycle all box board, cardboard, tin, toner and ink cartridges, batteries, plastic bags, Styrofoam, aluminum, office paper, steel, magazines, catalogs, plastic containers, phone books, newspapers, glass and bubble wrap.
  • Many of our accessories, jewelry and other products are made from recycled and re-purposed items.
  • We even compost our used tea leaves (and we drink a lot of tea). We have the best smelling compost pile around!
  • We encourage customers locally to reuse, recycle and reduce by example, and by handing out our 8-page local "Green Pages", a brochure compiled by The League of Women Voters and sponsored by our local waste management company. This publication lists all county landfill/convenience stations and recycling centers with hours of operations. In addition it tells you where to take your items for recycling from crayons to eye glasses and computers to CD/DVD cases and more - well done!
