Safe-"Tea" Facts

Tea & Treasures is fully licensed by New York State to process, blend and sell our Amitea teas and herbal infusions, and our kitchen meets all Dept. of Agriculture Requirements and inspection criteria, we thought you'd like to know.

Our tea strainers, tea balls and other accessories are USFDA approved 18/8 Stainless Steel. Some dollar store "stainless steel" will rust because it is inferior quality and could potentially be harmful.

Our ceramic teapots and teaware are made using LEAD FREE glazes. Our supplier of these ceramics provides superior housing for staff and runs a clean and responsible factory. Annual audits ensure their continuing ethical practices.

Our teas are sourced from suppliers who are audited annually by Avendra, a third-party compliance inspector, which ensures that our sources are compliant with:

  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) - An international program which ensures that the tea you purchase through us has been processed in a clean, safe manner.
  • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) - This international food safety program requires our sources to meticulously record all aspects of their operation, critical to food safety, so they can trace the tea you purchase to its origin.
  • National Organic Program (NOP) - This program is audited yearly and assures you that our organic products are what we say they are. It is your assurance by an independent, third party that organic means organic!

Customs Trade Partners Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) - This is a program designed to strengthen overall supply chain safety.

Respect for our planet and her people: Ethical tea Partnership (etp)

Headquartered in London, the Ethical Tea partnership audits tea estates to ensure they follow ethical practices in 6 specific areas.

  •  Employment
  • Educational Policies
  • Health and Maternity
  • Safety Standards
  • Housing
  • Basic Human Rights

Many of our teas are from etp plantations and we encourage these tea garden owners to comply by purchasing from them.

Fair Trade

  •  A program designed to protect third world producers from exploitation and ensure that they receive a fair market price for their product.  We strongly encourage this program.
